Donato (Donat Vasilievich Starichkov, 1885-1964) was a clown of the "old school" in Odessa, who came from an ancient Italian family of acrobats. He was a mentor to a more well-documented clown, Leonid Engibarov. A photo from a private collection, taken around 1910, shows Donato in this same white jacket, accompanied by a rat on a leash.
