After the Second World War when the airplane became a more ubiquitous form of transportation, transport advertising in Britain began to change. Railroad posters that had always been of such high creative standards, virtually disappeared, and were replaced by airline campaigns. The two major airlines BEA (for European travel), and BOAC (for the rest of the world), advertised heavily and commissioned the best artists of the time to help them. These four posters, connected not only by the advertiser but also by their high creative standard, show the artistic trends of the period, surreal symbolism from Games and Giad, humor from Reiss, and sophisticated graphic illustration from Kroll. Graphis Annual p. 123, 126.
