ABRAM GAMES (1914-1996) UNITED NATIONS DAY. 1948
29x19 inches, 73 1/2x48 cm. Fosh & Cross Ltd., London.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears at edges.
This post-surrealist image cleverly evokes the concept of an accord among nations. Games achieves this through the conceit of a man shaking hands (hands that stay clasped together after he has moved on). "There were elements in his work that he used with consistency. A motif that Games employed throughout his career was that of the hand. Possessing an anonymity that a face could barely achieve it made universal a wide variety of ideas and emotions." (Games p. 94). Games 116.
