Additional Details

Vito Acconci, now an artist-architect, was a seminal performance artist in the 1970s known for his bodily and behavorial extremes. In this notorious piece he lay beneath a sloping gallery floor, masturbating unseen, his heavy breathing at times revealing itself to voyeuristic visitors. This photographic suite is composed of an overall view of the site, a gallery-goer in the gallery, a picture of the crawl area, and a scene of the wooden supports and cramped space underneath the sloping floor.<
