Additional Details

Gifted by Eddie Adams to his son, Ed Adams, and accompanied by a letter of provenance. This iconic image won Adams the 1969 Pulitzer Prize and a World Press Photo award. Later on he would lament its notoriety: 'The general killed the Viet Cong; I killed the general with my camera." In addition to the Pulitzer, Adams received more than 500 awards for his press photographs.
