Additional Details

Discourses on Davila was a series of articles written by Adams and published anonymously in the Gazette of the United States beginning in 1790. The articles began as a translation of a work by the 17th-century Italian historian Enrico Caterino Davila (Historia delle guerre civili di Francia), and became a commentary, not only on that work, but also on the structure of democratic government.
