ADOLPH GOTTLEIB
Lemon Yellow Ground.

Color lithograph, 1966. 505x715 mm; 19 7/8x28 1/8 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 19/50 in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression.

Gottlieb had achieved international recognition by the 1960s, when he embarked on printmaking projects in lithography, intaglio and screenprint to represent his Imaginary Landscape and Burst paintings series from the 1950s which had brought him to this renown. The Imaginary Landscape paintings, like the present lot (and lot 521), are typically horizontal with strong gestural strokes repsenting rocky landscapes or turbulent seas; the Burst series (see lot 522), vertically oriented, normally feature an orb shape hovering above a gestural form.
