This image of the Pilgrim founders of Newark won first prize in a national competition. The poster contest was announced on August 15, 1915, with $1000 going to the winner, $500 for second and $300 for third place. $250,000 was spent on the celebration overall, which included concerts, an historical pageant, numerous parades, a track meet and a poetry competition.
