Champenois had such great commercial success with Mucha's decorative panels for the Four Seasons, that he realized the market could absorb much more of the same. But as great as Mucha was, one artist's work could not satisfy the fervent demand. So Champenois began commissioning different artists, with different styles, to design decorative panels. All that Champenois insisted on was that these panels be designed in thematic groups of two, or four images. Champenois' 1900 catalogue offered over 100 panels by more than 12 different artists. Cossard only designed this set, in a style heavily inspired by Mucha. And while they may not have been the most innovative art works to hit the market, they were exactly what the public was looking for: Highly decorative.
