This poster appeared in a promotional book issued on the 125th anniversary of the Smeets Publishing Company. The spiral-bound book was published "first and foremost [as] a guide and aid to those who, in some way or another have to do with printing" (p. 2). It was also a sample book, to demonstrate the vast array of Smeets's printing capabilities. While it was lavishly illustrated in full color, with samples of cigar labels, counter-cards, cut-outs, photographs, fold-outs, product labels and more, the book is most famous for containing this image by Cassandre. The poster never appeared anywhere else, or in any other form. While the poster was apparently designed in 1951 (see the date next to Cassandre's signature), the book itself wasn't printed until 1955.
