ADOLPHE MOURON CASSANDRE (1901-1968)

THOMSON. 1931.

46½x30¾ inches, 118x78 cm. Alliance Graphique, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears at edges; creases and minor overpainting at edges, in image and along horizontal folds. Framed.

Promoting electric devices in the home as an aide to housework, this "remarkably legible design . . . is based on a clever graphic pun on the term main-d'oeuvre (literally, hand-labor, i.e. hired help)" (Mouron, p. 78). "It can be seen as both surrealist and, through its monumental approach, leading towards being an object poster" (Weill / Cassandre p. 132). This is the full-size version.
