ADOLPHE MOURON CASSANDRE ECOSSE. 1928.
40x25 inches. Bemrose & Sons, Derby.
Condition A. Paper.
One of two realized posters Cassandre created to promote travel to Scotland. Although designed early in his career the poster reflects the kind of surrealism that would become much more prominent in Cassandre's work in the late 1930s. Stylistically the poster is extremely reminiscent of works by E. McKnight Kauffer, provoking the question who influenced whom. "These 'landscape' posters are very different from Cassandre's other advertising designs. His attempt to straddle the borderline between a naturalism that was no doubt meant to appear full of wonder and the dictates of a synthetic approach to composition was bold, if not reckless." (Mouron p. 68). Mouron / Cassandre 108, p. 66.
