AGOSTINO CARRACCI
Portrait of a Titian.

Engraving, 1587. 325x230 mm; 12 3/4x9 inches, thread margins. Third state (of 4). A superb, dark, richly-inked and early impression with the guidelines for the text distinct.

Accordign the Bohlin, "Probably Agostino's most famous print, this portrait shows the artist at his most brilliant. Gori Gandellini incorrectly believed the engraving to be after Agostino's own design; rather, it follows the self-portrait by Titian now in Berlin (Dahlem Museum), but in the 1580s in Venice." Bartsch 154; Bohlin 145.
