Gleizes (1881-1953) and Jean Metzinger (see the preceding lots 367 and 368) wrote the first major treatise on Cubism Du Cubisme, 1912. Along with Metzinger, Robert Delannay and Fernand Léger, Gleizes exhibited in the first organized group showing by Cubists, at the Salon des Indépendents, Paris, 1911 (Picasso and Braque were exhibiting simultaneously, though at a private Paris gallery).
