Pen and black ink on tan wove paper, 1916. 280x216 mm; 11x8 1/2 inches. Dated "Barcelone 16" in ink, lower right recto. Ex-collection Helen Serge, La Boetie, New York, with the label on the frame back.

Gleizes (1881-1953) exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1910 and soon after begain collaborating with fellow-Cubist Jean Metzinger. He later joined the Puteaux Group led by Jacques Villon and his brother Marcel Duchamp.

Gleizes married in 1915 and spent the summer painting at the resort area of Tossa del Mar with Marie Laurencin, Francis Picabia and his wife. In December 1915 Gleizes had the first solo exhibition of his works at the Galeries Dalmau in Barcelona.
