Solon specialized in aviation posters, for a time, working under contract with Farman Airlines, and later went on to design memorable images for Air France, KLM and Lufthansa. His design work for Farman consistently utilized an inimitable, unembellished Art Deco style. Here, he depicts the F-170 Jabiru (Stork), an eight-seater with an elegantly appointed interior cabin. It is depicted taking flight above the curvature of the earth and soaring up past the birds from which it takes its name. The Farman company was founded in 1919 and was a forerunner of the Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA). In 1933, the SGTA was one of five airline companies that merged to form Air France.
