ALBERT STEINER OVER THERE. 1917.
59x40 1/4 inches. (151 x 102 cm.)
Condition B+: restoration along horizontal fold.
In 1917 George M. Cohan composed the song that became the anthem for the First World War; Over There. Using the song's title, Sterner depicts a somber, strong image of Columbia, sword in hand, beneath the billowing stars and stripes and a sky filled with curls of smoke emanating from the ships of the Navy. She is pointing a sailor to the distant shores of Europe. Rawls p. 80, Theofiles 49.
