ALBRECHT DÜRER
Emperor Maximilian I.

Woodcut, 1519. 540x380 mm; 21 1/4x15 inches. Fourth state (of 4). A very good Meder 2c impression, with the artist's monogram lower right. Augsburg chalice watermark (Meder 183, which he dates to circa 1600). A very good, dark and evenly-printed impression of this large, scarce print with strong contrasts.

According to Meder, the architectural framing device is by Hans Weiditz. This impression would have been issued after 1519, the year of Maximilian's death. Bartsch 154; Meder 255.
