ALBRECHT DÜRER
Emperor Maximilian I<>.

Woodcut, 1519. 544x385 mm; 21 3/8x15 1/8 inches. Fourth state (of 4). A very good Meder 2a impression, with the artist's monogram lower right but before the breaks and wormholes. Coat-of-arms with several crosses (similar to Briquet 1251 and 1253, which date to present day Poland, circa 1530-40). Trimmed on or just inside the image. A very good, evenly printed impression of this large, scarce print.

According to Meder, the architectural framing device is by Hans Weiditz. This impression would have been issued after 1519, the year of Maximilian's death. Bartsch 154; Meder 255.
