The Life of the Virgin<>.

Set of 19 woodcuts, 1502-10. Each approximately 295x215 mm; 11 5/8x8 1/2 inches, small margins. Several with a shield with a band watermark (Meder 246, which he dates to circa 1600). Each after the 1511 Latin text edition. Very good, clean impressions.

With--The Adoration of the Magi<>, woodcut, 1511. A good Meder i impression. Shield with a band watermark (Meder 245) * The Virgin Surrounded by Many Angels<>, woodcut, 1518. A dark, evenly printed Meder c impression. Shield with a band watermark (Meder 246) * The Holy Family with Two Angels in a Vaulted Hall<>, woodcut, circa 1504. A good, evenly printed Meder d impression. Partial double-eagle (?) watermark (Meder 222). Various sizes, each with small margins.

Each hinged onto sheets in a volume with full, gilt-stamped brown morocco binding by Chambolle and a paste board slipcase.

According to Meder, sets of the Life of the Virgin<> issued after the 1511 Latin text edition vary in the quality of impressions and almost all, like the current set, lack the original woodcut title. The current set is clean and the impressions are strong and dark. Together 22 prints total. Bartsch 77-95, 3, 101 and 100; Meder 189-207, 208, 211 and 213.
