ALEXANDER (1891-1956) & VAVARA RODCHENKO (1894-1958) [MAYAKOVSKY / "GOOD!"] Circa 1950s. 32 1/4x20 1/2 inches, 82x52 cm. Condition A: minor skinning in bottom margin. Mounted on Japan. Depicting a verse from the poet's 1927 poem, "Good!" and illustrated with photographs of the progress of the Soviet Union both agricultural and urban. The poem reads, 'And I / like the spring of mankind / born / in labor and battle / sing / my fatherland / my republic!' The same verse appears on a 1958 commemorative statute of Mayakovsy in Moscow's Triumfalnaya Ploshchad (Triumphal Square), which was renamed Mayakovsky Square in the 1930s.
