Although born into a family of artists, Calder didn't begin pursuing his artistic career until he was in his mid-twenties. He studied at the Art Student's League of New York from 1923-1926, after which he moved to Paris. This extremely scarce poster for a travel agency has an exceptionally modernist style and may, with the following lot, be the only commercial advertising the artist ever designed.
