Towards the end of Alfred Stieglitz's student days in Europe, he made this exposure near Vienna, June 1890. Sarah Greenough, the curator of photography for the National Gallery of Art, published in Volume 1 of Alfred Stieglitz: The Key Set three variant prints of this image (No. 62, 63, and 64). The first, a platinum print exhibited in 1891 and widely reproduced in magazines and books of the period, shows a slightly wider view, with foliage on the left side and along the horizon line. The next print, also a platinum, was printed 1895-96, and is a bit darker with higher contrast and a greater amount of foliage at the side and horizon. The third print is a silver gelatin from 1920-1930s, also with a variant cropping.
