Additional Details

Soichi Sunami was born in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, and emigrated to the West Coast of the United States in 1905. By 1922, he had moved to New York City, and by 1930 was the official staff photographer for MoMA, a position he would hold for nearly 40 years. This position would ensure that Sunami was spared from the Japanese internment camps during World War II.
