ALMA LAVENSON (1897-1989)
Eucalyptus Leaves. 1933; printed 1987.
Silver print, the image measuring 12x8⅞ inches (30.5x22.5 cm.), the sheet 14x11 inches (35.6x27.9 cm.), with Lavenson's signature in pencil, and "The Friends of Photography's Collectors Print Program" stamp with Lavenson's credit, title, negative date, and printer's credit, on verso.

Accompanied by a letter from the Friends of Photography, San Francisco, on this limited edition photograph offered on the occasion of her 90th birthday, as a celebration of her long affair with photography: "Lavenson began her most involved project, photographing California's Mother Lode Country, in the early 1930s with her husband. After her husband's death in 1957, she continued the project and occasionally photographed the Mother Lode Country with Cunningham. Eucalyptus Leaves is a fine example of Lavenson's strong sense of design and her concern with the beautiful print, aspects of her work that led Group f.64 to take note of her talents."
