ALMERY LOBEL-RICHE (1880-1950) PEUGEOT CYCLES. Circa 1900.
29 1/8x21 inches, 74x53 cm. Camis & Cie., Paris.
Condition A.
An illustrator who was known for his tireless, sensuous depiction of the female body, Lobel-Riche designed only this one poster. The image cleverly conveys two messages: That Peugeot cycles are a pleasure for a couple to ride, and in addition, they can transport you faster than a steaming train. The effect of the light from the bicycle's lanterns, illuminating the two riders, and the glowing cabin of the train's engine, is an ingenious graphic juxtaposition, and that the use of orange color in the typography adds to the overall graphic impact of this charming image. This is the smaller format. Voici p. 95.
