Additional Details

Alois Nozicka was a Czech photographer and cameraman known for his surreal depictions of the commonplace. In the 1950s he joined a circle of surrealist photographers whose images became quite popular. Nozicka's photographs are characterized by abstract details of everyday objects, including heaps of debris, unidentifiable tools, or organic formations. These seemingly disjointed pictures actually reflected the sense of social disconnection felt by the population during the years of Stalinist terror in the 1950s and in this way represent the conflict between the individual and the state. His work has been presented at numerous exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
