ALPHONSE MUCHA (1860-1939) KRAJINSKÁ VYSTAVA V IVANCICÍCH. 1912.
37 1/4x23 1/2 inches, 94 1/2x59 3/4 cm. V. Neubert, Smichov.
Condition A.
Mucha designed this poster gratis for the city of his birth to announce a regional fair. "The two peasant girls are decked out in the best of rustic finery, which used to be hand-sewn on each farm with endless attention to every detail - a folk art so exacting that a minute variant would immediately tell the knowledgeable eye from which village the wearer came. It is a safe bet that Mucha did not have to travel to Ivancice to be able to render the church steeple - one of the fondest memories of his youth, and the subject of one of his earliest forays into painting, when he was still at school" (Lendl p. 279). Rennert / Weill 101, Lendl p. 279, Mucha Grand Palais A69.
