In 1904, Alphonse Mucha left Paris to move with his family to America. He returned to Prague in 1911, and for the rest of his life focused his attention on the Slav Epic. This was his first poster completed upon his return and it can be seen as a bridge between the two major aspects of his career - embodying the stylistic Art Nouveau flourishes that garnered world attention and spawned the term Le Styl Mucha, as well as representing the ethnic imagery and symbolism of Czechoslovakia, which was becoming more and more important to the artist.
