ALPHONSE MUCHA (1860-1939) WIENER CHIC. 1898.
14 3/4x10 1/2 inches. Joseph Eberle, Vienna.
Condition A.
"Mucha designed several covers for the monthly magazine Le Chic . . . and Wiener Chic, distributed by the same publishers in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, London and New York. The January 1905 issue of Wiener Chic represents a quintessential design of the period, with the model posed in a typical S curve, a coquettish tilt of the head, swirls of hair filling the background, and a profusion of Art Nouveau jewelry including an ornamental breastplate. On the left, a continuous band contains peacock feathers, a symbol of eternal youth and also pride." (Spirit of Art Nouveau p. 216). Spirit of Art Nouveau 61.
