"Mucha designed several covers for the monthly magazine Le Chic published by B. Finkelstein et Frère in Paris, and Wiener Chic, distributed by the same publishers in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, London and New York. The magazine used this same illustration for its cover from at least 1898 to 1905, with changes only in the two text blocks. The image "represents a quintessential design of the period, with the model posed in a typical 'S' curve, a coquettish tilt of the head, swirls of hair filling the background, and a profusion of Art Nouveau jewelry including an ornamental breastplate. On the left, a continuous band contains peacock feathers, a symbol of eternal youth and also pride" (Spirit of Art Nouveau p. 216). Mucha / Japan 113, Spirit of Art Nouveau 61.
