This striking, floating construction is the first significant collage by Al Loving from the 1970s to come to auction. It is a densely woven composition of strips of paper that are painted with soft tones from an aerosol spray. Loving also supported the collage's paper edges to give it a sense of floating in space. After showing this collage work in his second solo exhibition at Fischbach Gallery, Loving had his first retrospective at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 1977. Another 1976 collage, Shelly, Fran, Susie and Andrea, is in the collection of the Studio Museum in Harlem, and was recently included in the museum's exhibition, Brothers and Sisters.
