A.M. CASSANDRE (1901-1968) SWEEPSTAKE. 1935.
14 1/2x10 1/4 inches. Aliance Graphique, Paris.
Condition B+: minor restoration along vertical and horizontal folds; pinholes in corners.
Every aspect of this poster exudes speed and movement. From the colored shirts that are blowing behind the jockeys, to the manes of the horses, and their legs that appear as blurs, to the typography, whose gradation of color makes the same suggestion. One of the least geometric designs that Cassandre created, it is also one of the richest, with his freehand drawing and liberal use of bright colors appearing almost painting-like, which was unusual in his work. This is the smaller format. Mouron pl 54, Bibliotheque Nationale / Cassandre 94, Reinhold & Brown 50.
