AMERICAN AIRLINES TO NEW YORK. Circa 1950. 393/4x30 inches. Condition A-: minor restored losses and repaired tears in margins. Kauffer spent the last 15 years of his life back in America, where he focussed primarily on book design and illustration. However, he continued to design posters for Pan American Airlines and American Airlines. He did several posters advertising travel to New York, some of them using a photomontage technique. Here, however, he evokes the splendid grandeur of New York's sky scrapers via a pedestrian's perspective; a few windows and the flag break the solid, geometric form of the building.
