Additional Details

The so-called Pirated Edition, issued according to the preface because the late Dr. Ames had not calculated an almanac past 1765. Ames's son had indeed continued the almanac, but had refused permission for it to be published by the printers of this edition. Ames's almanac for that year is of considerable importance, as it contains the first Paul Revere illustration to appear in an almanac, a small metal cut of an eclipse. The pirated edition also contains an illustration of an eclipse, but apparently not by Revere. This almanac is also of note as a pre-Revolution item, with the note on the title indicating the price of the almanac before and after the Stamp Act, an extract from a British Act of Parliament mentioning the punishment for not following the Stamp Act and more. Drake 3146; Brigham, page 134; Evans 10212.
