Schulkin studied at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design in the 1920s. He had early solo exhibitions at the Art Centre Gallery and at the Midtown Galleries in New York. Later, Schulkin produced murals for the Works Progress Administration as well as several important private commissions. His work is found today in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
