ANDERS ZORN
Reading.

Etching, 1893. 234x157 mm; 9 1/8x6 1/8 inches, full margins. Third state (of 3). Signed in pencil, lower right. A very good impression of this scarce etching.

Zorn's (1860-1920) intimate portrait of the Chicago businessman Charles Deering, chairman of International Harvester, and his wife. Deering (1852-1927) was an avid art collector and amassed a group of etchings by Zorn that was unrivaled outside of the artist's own collection. An amateur artist, in 1893 Deering took a hiatus from his business to study painting in Paris under Zorn for an entire season.

We have found only 9 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Delteil 78; Asplund 78; Hjert/Hjert 55.
