ANDRE MARTIN (1928-1999) AMI 8 / CITROEN. Circa 1969.
34x45 1/2 inches, 86 1/2x115 cm.
Condition A.
Andre Martin, Henri Cartier Bresson and Robert Doisneau were among the photographers favored by Robert Delprise, who owned an advertising agency and was among the first in France to enlist the services of top photographers and illustrators to work for major clients, such as the French car maker, Citroen. From early in the 1960s, Andre Martin designed most of the posters for Citroen. In 1961, the company launched a new model, the Ami 6, a strange looking car with a reverse-raked rear window and, in 1969, they updated the look with the Ami 8. Martin uses an exceptional photographic effect (long before the days of Photoshop) of the car emerging from a saturated red background. The insets at the top show the new design of the back of the car.
