Chiaroscuro woodcut printed in black, brown and ochre on thin cream laid paper, circa 1600. 384x270 mm; 151/8x105/8 inches. Ex-collection Martin Folkes (Lugt 1034, lower right recto). Trimmed on or inside the border line, restored losses upper left corner and upper right edge. A good impression of this very scarce, early color print.
A patch has been used in the center of the composition for the upper torso and head of the child and part of the Virgin's left arm. This appears to have been cut from another impression, though printed in gray and black. Bartsch 4.
