ANDREW JOHNSON (DATES UNKNOWN) WOODHALL SPA / IT'S QUICKER BY RAIL. Circa 1930. 40x25 inches, 101 1/2x63 1/2 cm. Adams Bros. & Shardlow Ltd., London. Condition A- / B+: restoration along sharp horizontal creases through lower image; unobtrusive vertical and horizontal folds; a few foxing spots in lower image. Andrew Johnson was a commercial designer whose work was marked by an attractive modernity. He created ads for General Motors and Buick and also did a lot of work for Britain's LNER and Southern Railway. This is one of at least two posters the artist designed for the spa, the other featuring the "Pump Room" seen from a distance through a verdant canopy of trees.
