ANDREW WYETH
The Open Window.

Watercolor on stock card, double-sided. 85x133 mm; 3 3/8x5 1/2 inches. Signed and dedicated in pen and brown ink, upper left verso. With a representation of Santa Claus by Betsy Wyeth in watercolor, verso.

Wyeth met his wife, Betsy James, in Maine in 1939, and they married only a year later. Betsy's influence on Wyeth's art career was significant and varied; not only did she manage the business end of his art, but Wyeth held her judgment and opinion concerning his work in high regard . Betsy was responsible for introducing Wyeth to Christina Olson, a young woman from Maine, who modeled for Wyeth's arguably most famous painting, Christina's World, 1948, now in the Museum of Modern Art, New York., collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Acquired directly from the artist by the current owner.
