Additional Details

Andy Warhol's film, which took on themes of gay obsession which were new to the canon of American film at that time, was shot over an LSD-fueled Labor Day weekend on Fire Island. It is the story of an older man and his "Dial a Hustler" companion at the New York weekend destination. Although the New York Times referred to it as a "fetid beach-boy film" (11 July 1967), the film proved to be a financial success for Warhol. It premiered in December 1965 at the Film-Makers' Cinematheque, and this poster advertises a screening in the spring of the following year.
