The Souper Dress.

Printed cellulose and cotton non-woven fabric sleeveless A-line dress, circa 1966-67. 950x600 mm; 37¼x23½ inches. With the original Dress Offer order form and care note. A very good impression with strong colors.

This dress was published by the Campbell's Soup Company as a "throwaway," an ephemeral object meant to be used and thereafter disposed. The "throwaway" paper dress took off in the mid-1960s, with many companies manufacturing "throwaway" items of clothing to sell at low prices. They were cheap to produce, usually emblazoned with the company's logo, and were walking advisements. The paper dress captured the essence of Pop Art and the amalgamation of fashion, art and advertising and was suited perfectly to Warhol's (1928-1987) iconic Campbell's Soup can imagery.
