The former owner of this work, a private New York collector, acquired it from a New York gallery in the early 1970s. She bought frequently through Castelli Gallery and André Emmerich Gallery, acquiring mostly Pop Art works including others offered in this auction (see lots 230and 237 ). She knew Warhol and subsequently had him sign the verso of the work during one of her visits to The Factory at Union Square, New York during the 1970s.
