ANDY WARHOL
Gold Shoe.

Brush and black ink and white gouache and gold leaf on light tan, wove paper, late 1950s. 183x210 mm; 7 1/4x8 1/4 inches. Signed in black ink, lower left recto.

As a successful advertising artist in the 1950s, Warhol secured design work for the I. Miller shoe company of New York. From 1955 through the rest of the decade, he made numerous shoe design drawings for friends and business associates, even mounting an exhibition of his gold shoe drawings at the Bodley Gallery, a prominent New York Upper East Side arts venue, in 1957.

Along with these shoe drawings, he created an illustrated book of shoe designs called À la Recherche du shoe perdu, which he published around 1955.
