ANDY WARHOL
"Three" Film Still.

Ferrotyped silver print, 1964. 238x191 mm; 9 3/8x7 1/2 inches, wide margins. With Warhol's blue ink hand stamp, verso.

Warhol began creating films in 1963, and the medium remained a significant part of his artistic output through the remainder of his career. Seeking to capture the gritty reality of the culture surrounding him, Warhol produced moving pictures confronting a broad array of themes. The current work is a photographic still from "Three," starring Walter Dainwood, Ondine and Gerald Malanga, addressing sexuality in the mid-1960s.
