Additional Details

Acquired from Sotheby's New York; to a Private Collector in 1995.

Brigman was one of two women associated with Alfred Stieglitz's elite group of fine art Photo-Secession photographers. The halo surrounding the nude "angel" was created in the negative, by hand. Brigman drew and scratched lines above the figure's head; the faint lines of reticulation in the other figure's sheath were meant to depict the garment as windblown.
