The Canadian Pacific corporate empire included trains, ocean liners and eventually airplanes. After World War II, "the days of commercial rail travel were numbered, and the major thrust of the company's advertising campaigns was directed toward the expanding airline business." (Canadian Pacific p. 61). Depicted here are The Canadian, CPR's most famous post-war passenger train, The Empress of Britain ("Post-war steamship posters can be identified by the Canadian Pacific red-and-white-checkered houseflags which were painted on the sides of the ship's funnels" ibid, p. 59), and one of the company's Bristol Britannias.
