A series of eruptions that began in 1914--and were to continue until 1917—brought the significance of this area as a volcanic landscape to the attention of America, and Lassen Volcanic National Park was signed into being in 1916. Situated in northeastern California, the park constitutes the southern-most tip of the Cascade Mountains. 'In 1926 Benjamin F. Loomis bought a 40-acre piece of privately owned land just south of Reflection Lake and in 1927 he and his wife built the Mae Loomis Memorial Museum, named in memory of his only daughter who had died seven years before. In 1929 he donated the land and building to the park. This handsome historical stone structure is still in use today, and exhibits his remarkable photographs of the eruption' (http://www.lassenloomis.info/museum.htm)
