Additional Details

Best's Studio, the "oldest family-owned concessioner in the National Park System," was constructed in 1904 and operated by Harry and Ann Best. A popular social destination for park visitors, among those who spent time there was a young photographer named Ansel Adams.

In 1928 Adams married Virginia Best at a wedding conducted in the newly constructed studio setting. Adams had recently published his first portfolio. He and Virginia maintained the studio until 1971, when it was turned over to Michael and Jeanne Adams, their son and daughter-in-law, and renamed the Ansel Adams Gallery.
